PAC Expands Maternal Health Outreach Services in Daynile and Kahda Districts

Mogadishu, Somalia — Physicians Across Continents (PAC), with funding support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Human Services – Federal Government of Somalia and UNFPA Somalia, is scaling up health outreach activities to improve access to essential maternal healthcare services in Daynile and Kahda districts. The initiative targets displaced and vulnerable women and girls who often face significant barriers in accessing healthcare services. By delivering services directly within communities, the outreach program is helping to bridge critical gaps in maternal health service delivery. Through these activities, PAC provides a range of essential services, including antenatal and postnatal care, maternal health consultations, health education, and early detection and referral of pregnancy-related complications. The program aims to ensure safer pregnancies and improved health outcomes for both mothers and newborns. Health officials emphasized that bringing services closer to communities plays a key role in reducing delays in seeking care and increasing access to life-saving interventions, particularly among internally displaced populations. In addition to clinical services, the outreach efforts include health education sessions designed to raise awareness and empower women with knowledge on safe pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care. The intervention reflects the strong collaboration between PAC, KSRelief, the Ministry of Health, and UNFPA Somalia in strengthening healthcare delivery systems and addressing urgent maternal health needs across Somalia. PAC Successfully Concludes 12th Obstetric Fistula Repair Campaign in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia — Physicians Across Continents (PAC), in collaboration with the Somali Ministry of Health, UNFPA, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), and local partners, has successfully concluded the 12th Obstetric Fistula Repair Campaign held at Daynile Hospital from 27 September to 3 October 2025. The week-long campaign marked a significant milestone in efforts to eliminate obstetric fistula in Somalia, restoring health, dignity, and hope to women affected by this debilitating condition. Over the course of the campaign, more than 150 life-changing surgeries were successfully performed, transforming the lives of women who had long suffered from the physical and social impacts of fistula. Beyond surgical interventions, the campaign also focused on raising community awareness about maternal health and strengthening the capacity of local healthcare professionals through hands-on training and mentorship. These efforts aim to ensure sustainable improvements in the prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula across the country. Throughout the campaign, healthcare teams worked tirelessly to provide comprehensive care, ensuring that each patient received not only medical treatment but also emotional support and dignity. Many women left the facility with renewed confidence, restored health, and hope for a better future. The initiative also received recognition from key stakeholders, including representatives from UNFPA, government officials, and PAC leadership, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in addressing maternal health challenges in Somalia. The successful completion of the 12th campaign reflects the strong partnership between PAC, KSRelief, the Ministry of Health, UNFPA, and local partners in advancing maternal healthcare services and working toward a future free from obstetric fistula.
