Mogadishu, Somalia — Physicians Across Continents (PAC), in collaboration with the Somali Ministry of Health, UNFPA, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), and local partners, has successfully concluded the 12th Obstetric Fistula Repair Campaign held at Daynile Hospital from 27 September to 3 October 2025.
The week-long campaign marked a significant milestone in efforts to eliminate obstetric fistula in Somalia, restoring health, dignity, and hope to women affected by this debilitating condition. Over the course of the campaign, more than 150 life-changing surgeries were successfully performed, transforming the lives of women who had long suffered from the physical and social impacts of fistula.
Beyond surgical interventions, the campaign also focused on raising community awareness about maternal health and strengthening the capacity of local healthcare professionals through hands-on training and mentorship. These efforts aim to ensure sustainable improvements in the prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula across the country.
Throughout the campaign, healthcare teams worked tirelessly to provide comprehensive care, ensuring that each patient received not only medical treatment but also emotional support and dignity. Many women left the facility with renewed confidence, restored health, and hope for a better future.
The initiative also received recognition from key stakeholders, including representatives from UNFPA, government officials, and PAC leadership, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in addressing maternal health challenges in Somalia.
The successful completion of the 12th campaign reflects the strong partnership between PAC, KSRelief, the Ministry of Health, UNFPA, and local partners in advancing maternal healthcare services and working toward a future free from obstetric fistula.
PAC reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such life-saving interventions, ensuring that no woman is left behind.
